here's the secret
When I started my photography journey in 2008, I NEVER wanted to photograph weddings. I was adamant about that; it was too much pressure, too much stress and way too much anxiety for this anxiety riddled girl. I photographed everything but weddings in those early years. Families, maternity sessions, newborns, headshots, parties. You name it. Just never weddings (that obviously came later). As I progressed in my career and hit the age where weddings were a part of my social circle, weddings became my bread and butter and I fell in love with them so much so that I put family photography on the back burner.
Fast forward to my client list expanding where my past wedding couples were starting their own families. The comfort level I had was off the charts. I knew these people so well because I had been there to tell different chapters of their love story, and now I was getting to watch their story grow first hand. It was so much fun to witness and be a part of.
Now that I am a mom myself, I have a new appreciation for these sessions. The same approach I take on my wedding days applies. Those “smile say cheese” photos are nice to have, but not the meat and potatoes of these sessions. I want to show what your real life looks like. The crazy giggles, the endless energy and maybe even those grumpy faces that right now are frustrating, but will turn into that “oh so cute” face in 4 years. And as you know, it’s pretty hard to force a toddler to do what you want all the time. So let them be little and let me capture them as they are. At this age, frozen in frame.
You’ll thank yourself later.
